Russia says efforts underway to resolve Lachin Corridor situation
Russia is taking all necessary measures to resolve the situation in the Lachin Corridor, the sole road linking Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia blocked by Azerbaijan, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
Azerbaijan on Sunday set up a checkpoint at the Hakari Bridge in the Lachin Corridor in violation of the November 2020 ceasefire agreement, which states that the Lachin Corridor falls under the control of the Russian peacekeeping troops in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Russia clearly expressed its position in a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 24,” Zakharova told a press briefing. “Necessary efforts are currently underway both through the Russian peacekeeping contingent on the ground and on the political level to resolve the situation in the Lachin Corridor and return to the mainstream of the November 9, 2020 trilateral agreements."
"We believe it is fundamentally important for Yerevan to contribute to finding mutually acceptable solutions," she said.
