Pashinyan: Silence of Armenia's some allies over Lachin blockade 'weird'

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan thanked all the countries and international organizations that have responded to the ongoing Azerbaijani blockade of the Lachin corridor, the sole road connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia, aimed at causing a humanitarian crisis there.

“I have to say that the silence of some friendly countries in this regard is weird, to say the least,” he told a weekly cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Pashinyan expressed full support to the resolution adopted by the Armenian National Assembly on Wednesday, which calls for an urgent use of international mechanisms aimed at protecting the rights and security of the Artsakh Armenians.

The document also calls on the UN Security Council and the OSCE Minsk Group to send a fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh to monitor the humanitarian situation.

The premier told Armenia’s diplomatic service, namely the Foreign Ministry, to “effectively” convey the message in the parliament statement to the addressees.

“I am keeping in close touch with the Nagorno-Karabakh president to assess the ongoing developments and discuss possible solutions,” Pashinyan said.
