CSTO chief: Tensions between Armenia, Azerbaijan persist

A draft decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council on joint measures to help Armenia has been agreed upon, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas told a joint meeting of the Russian-led security bloc’s foreign, defense ministers and security chiefs in Yerevan on Wednesday.

"The efforts of the Armenian government and other actors to reach a peace agreement, legally draw the borders and unblock transport communications are playing a positive role in the Caucasus region,” he said.

“However, tensions remain on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The reports from the CSTO Crisis Response Center confirm that skirmishes are taking place on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border almost every day.

“Three special sessions of the Collective Security Council on the emerging threats for the Republic of Armenia were held in May, September and October of this year. In general, a draft decision of the Collective Security Council on joint measures to assist Armenia, based on the conclusions and recommendations of the CSTO monitoring mission, has been agreed upon,” Zas noted.
