CSTO deputy chief: Armenia-Azerbaijan escalation, confrontation risk remains

The events and incidents that took place this year in the area of responsibility of the CSTO showed the need to optimize the response mechanism of the CSTO to crisis situations. This was announced by the CSTO Deputy Secretary General at the meeting of the secretaries of the Security Councils of the CIS member countries on Thursday, TASS reports.

"According to the instructions of the leaders of the CSTO member states, the respective package of documents on this matter is ready and being agreed upon," added Valery Semerikov.

He emphasized that the current period of transformation of the world order has become the most serious test of stability for the union states.

According to him, the West pushes Kyiv to escalate the conflict despite all the losses of the Ukrainian side, but other centers of tension in the CSTO zone of responsibility also receive support. Thus, the risk of escalation and confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is maintained, the CSTO deputy chief noted.
