Putin calls on CIS countries’ security councils to use all their security capabilities

In the current complicated and unstable international situation, the security councils of the CIS countries need to develop and update the strategic planning documents—using all available capabilities. This was noted in the welcoming remarks by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the tenth annual meeting of the secretaries of the security councils of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries—and which got underway Thursday in Moscow.

Putin's aforesaid welcoming remarks were read by Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, RIA Novosti reported.

"Today the international situation remains complicated and unstable. In this regard, it is important to use the powerful analytical, forecasting resources of our structures to the full extent for a multi-faceted analysis of the situation in the CIS area and to bring potential challenges and dangers to surface," Putin said in his welcoming speech.

It is on this basis that the strategic planning documents should be developed and updated, accountable state decisions should be adopted. First of all, in the fields of information and biological security, counterterrorism, extremism, drug trade, illegal migration, added Putin.

Also, the Russian President expressed confidence that the current meeting of the secretaries of the security councils of the CIS countries will serve to strengthen the CIS collective security system and will become a significant stage in joint effective work for the benefit of the CIS member countries and peoples.

To note, Armenia also is a member in the CIS.
