Joe Biden's administration nominates Lynne Tracy as U.S. Ambassador to Russia

Joe Biden's administration has nominated Lynne Tracy for U.S. ambassador to Russia, the AP reports.

Administration officials familiar with the matter say Lynne Tracy, the current U.S. ambassador to Armenia, will be nominated to the Senate as soon as the Russian government approves the choice. Ambassador nominees must be approved by the host government in accordance with the rules of diplomatic protocol.

Russia was informed of the administration's decision weeks ago, but has not yet given formal approval, known in diplomatic parlance as agrement, officials said.

Tracy, who speaks Russian, previously served as a senior adviser on Russia in the State Department's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs and as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. She has also held several posts in Central and South Asia.
