White House urges Yerevan and Baku to restore direct communication channels
The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has no military solution, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, told a briefing.
The U.S. is concerned about reports of escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, including strikes on civilian infrastructure, he said noting that they are actively engaged with the authorities in Armenia and Azerbaijan to see what we can do to end this violence.
Secretary Blinken has spoken with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, he added.
We also encourage the sides to restore direct communication channels, both diplomatic and military, and reaffirm their commitment to the diplomatic process to overcome the crisis, he said.
