U.S. And Denmark Pledge More Aid For Ukraine, Call Russia's Actions 'Cruel'
"Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine continues to be reckless and cruel," the Pentagon chief said on Thursday.
During his meeting with Danish Defense Minister Morten Bodskov in Washington, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said Denmark was in step with the U.S. in providing arms, supplies and training to Ukraine,
"Today, we proudly stand with you in the face of Russian aggression that threatens Europe's freedom and security," he added, TURAN's U.S. correspondent reports from the Pentagon.
The Scandinavian country is also providing security assistance and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as well as troops and equipment to alliance deterrence forces in Latvia and Estonia.
"We welcome Denmark's clear understanding of the threats that we face," Austin said.
Bodskov, in his turn, added that Ukraine is fighting for freedom and democracy, and Europe and the U.S. have been unified in response to that.
"We are assessing Ukraine with historic resolve and determination, and your personal leadership has played a central role in this, and I want to thank you for that. I've come here with my team today, especially to thank you for that."
The Minister also added that Denmark "will continue" to be at the core of countries that will assist Ukraine.
"The Nordic/Baltic region is also undergoing a -- historic security changes now," he said.
