Impact of sanctions: Russia-Georgia trade soars by 32%

An increase in trade with Russia reported in the first half of 2022, according to Georgia's National Statistics Service. The trade turnover in January-June 2022 amounted to $962.2 million, which is 31.8% more than in January-June 2021.

At the same time, growth was achieved as a result of Russian export growth, since exports of Georgian goods to Russia dropped by 2.8% in the first half of 2022. Georgia's trade with Russia accounts for 11.4% of its foreign trade.

Georgia's exports to Russia in these six months amounted to 41,300 tons of ferroalloys, 34,800 tons of mineral and fresh water, 21,500 tons of natural grape wine, 3,400 tons of spirits and some other items.

During that period Russia imported to Georgia 77,200 tons of wheat flour, 198,200 tons of oil and oil products, 156,100 tons of natural and associated gases.

The supply of Russian hydrocarbons to Georgia increased as Europe imposed sanctions on Russian oil and gas.
