Putin names prospects for Eurasian economic cooperation

Three fourths of settlements in mutual trade of Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member-states are made in national currencies, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Eurasian Economic Forum.

"The practice of settlements in national currencies is expanding, which is very important," the head of state said. "Its share in mutual trade of [Eurasian Economic] Union countries has already reached 75%," the Russian leader noted.

"We will continue working on interfacing and mutual use of national payment systems and bank cards," Putin added.

Putin suggested creating a Eurasian Export Center and trading houses, as well as developing cross-border special economic zones. He called for accelerating the formation of a Eurasian reinsurance company, and studying such an issue as development of trans-border special economic zones, possibly even with supranational powers.

Putin also called for more active development of cooperation of the Eurasian Economic Union with foreign partners, saying the latter should be explained the benefits and advantages of working with the EAEU.

"Interest in the EAEU is growing. In this context, a significant role could be played by the EAEU Business Council, which is already successfully developing ties outside the Union. Its system of business dialogues could become an example for a potential platform for business cooperation in the Greater Eurasia," said Putin, adding that "it is desirable to support the freedom of business initiative, the creative activities of investors.'

"I propose that additional, better incentives be designed for them to participate more actively in the financing of Eurasian projects," he said, noting that companies companies from EAEU countries should receive priority support.

The Russian president pointed to another area of interaction- development of cooperation in green technologies, environmental protection and energy conservation. "Here we count on the support of the business community, its initiative proposals," he stressed.

The First Eurasian Economic Forum opened in Bishkek on Thursday, with the participation of more than 2,500 representatives.
