German company wins tender for new patrol ships for Bulgarian Navy

The Bulgarian government has commissioned the Minister of Defense to prepare a contract with the first-ranked bidder for the acquisition of two multi-purpose patrol vessels. LURSSEN WERFT GmbH & Co.KG's offer fits the project's financial framework of 503 million euros, including VAT, BNR reports.

The contract could be signed by August, said Minister of Defense Krassimir Karakachanov. Most probably the ships will be built in Varna. Two new mine hunters are in the process of delivery, Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov has added. These are second-hand ships and will be renovated. Talks are also underway with partner countries for the acquisition of 2 used submarines, Minister Karakachanov added.
