    Russian frigates are passing the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles on their way to Meditarrenean

    Russian Black Sea Fleet frigates are passing the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles on their way to the Mediterranean, where another ship of this type is already waiting for them, TASS reports according to the official information distributed by the Russian Black Sea Fleet.  

    "Two frigates began passing the straits simultaneously in order to move to the Mediterranean," the official release says. "Fregates Admiral Makarov and Admiral Grigorovich equipped with high-precision weapons like Kalibr-NK missile systems, are conducting a planned relocation from Sevastopol to a distant zone, where they will join the permanent naval group of the Russian Navy in the Meditarrenean," says the message. 

    It is also reported that the ships conducted series of exercises in the Black Sea during the relocation. 

    The ships are new series from the project 11356R/M (aka 11357). These are multifunctional frigate series designed to engage ships and vessels and other surface targets. Each of the ships has eight missile launchers for Kalibr-NK missiles. The are also equipped with air defense and artillery systems like Shtil-1 and AK-630M, as well as 100 mm universal artillery systems, torpedo and bomb launchers. They are also equipped with helipads for Ka-27 or Ka-31 anti-sub helicopers.
