    Kazakhstan reports record number of COVID-19 cases

    Kazakh doctors have detected 3,031 new cases of the coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours, which is the highest number overall. The total number of infections has reached 436,962, the state interagency anti-coronavirus commission reported on Monday.

    799 cases were reported in the city of Nur-Sultan, 499 in Karaganda region, 396 in the city of Almaty, 196 in Mangistau, 186 West-Kazakhstan, 161 in Shymkent city, 149 in Atyrau, 130 in Akmola, 92 in Almaty, 87 in Pavlodar, 69 in Aktobe region, 66 in East Kazakhstan, 57 in Zhambyl, 54 in Kostanay, 45 in Turkestan region, 33 in Kyzylorda region,  12 in North-Kazakhstan region.

    According to the commission’s data, in all, 402,121 people have recovered, including 1,248 in the past 24 hours.

    Kazakhstan began to vaccinate its population against COVID-19 on February 1 with Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine. Starting February 15, Kazakhstan plans to use the Sputnik V vaccine produced locally. In the second quarter of 2021, the government also plans to start vaccination with Kazakh-developed COVID-19 vaccine QazCovid-In, which is currently undergoing the third stage of clinical trials.
