Armenia president does not sign motion to release Onik Gasparyan, to apply to Constitutional Court
Armenia's president Armen Sarkissian issued a statement on his decision over the motion to release Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan.
The statement says that the president highlights the urgent solution of the political crisis created over the issue of release of Onik Gasparyan.
“With that purpose meetings were held with the prime minister, Colonel-General Onik Gasparyan and highest commander staff. The PM’s grounds for not accepting the president’s objections on the motion were also examined. It is obvious that the created situation is the result of existing disputes between political and military officials in war and post-war period sometimes with strictly personalized approaches,” the president’s statement reads.
It also said that the president made a decision not to sign the motion and will apply to the Constitutional Court with request to decide the constitutionality of November 15, 2017 Law on Military Service and Status of Military Serviceman.
