Armenia’s President states he has three days to make decision on releasing Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces
Armenia’s President’s administration received proposal to release chief of the General Staff of Armenia’s Armed Forces following the statement of the General Staff demanding the resignation of the Armenian government and the PM.
“By now, stemming from the need of ensuring normal functioning of state bodies, Armenia’s president did not have principle wrangling on appointing or releasing officials,” the statement of the president’s administration reads.
“In conditions of martial law, existing crisis and after the statement of the leadership of the General Staff of Armed Forces, the petition on releasing Onik Gasparyan is not a regular staff reshuffling if to take into account that Armenia’s Armed Forces are ensuring Armenia’s defense. President of Armenia has three days to make the decision,” the statement reads.
“In the created situation no one must try to involve the president into domestic political processes. Attempts of pressures on the president are unacceptable. The president is not for someone but is being guided with the interests of the state and the people. The president states about importance of stability and atmosphere of tolerance and is convinced that the problems must be settled through dialogue and not confrontation. The president considers that at this moment the reduction of tension in the country is a priority,” the statement reads.
