    Ukraine has become the world's leader in exports of sunflower oil at the end of the 2019-2020 marketing year (MY, September 2019 through August 2020). This was reported by the Ukroilprom Association, according to UNIAN.

    During the reporting period, Ukraine boosted exports of basic types of vegetable oil by US$5.28 billion, which was 16.9% more than in the previous season, it said. Sunflower oil exports reached a record 6.68 million tonnes (10.2% up year-on-year) to the tune of US$4.9 billion, 17% up. Global suppliers of sunflower oil Meanwhile, Ukraine's share in global exports of sunflower oil was 54.9%. For comparison, the share of Russia on this market at the end of the season was 26.2%, Argentina accounted for 6.2%, the European Union for 5.1%, and Turkey for 3.3%. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimates that Ukraine will remain the global leader in exports of sunflower oil in MY 2020/2021. Background In 2019, Ukraine exported US$2.5 billion worth of oilseeds and US$4.3 billion worth of sunflower oil. Germany was the largest importer of oilseeds from Ukraine last year, accounting for 19% of all shipments, while India was the largest buyer of Ukrainian-made vegetable oil, accounting for 30% of its purchases.
