Georgia: 30 Opposition Parties Sign Memorandum on Elections

According to Georgia Today, two months before the upcoming parliamentary elections 2020, about 30 opposition parties in Georgia have signed a memorandum, based on which they agree to "Protect both their own and each other's votes and not to allow the ruling party to steal votes."

At today's meeting, the representatives of the united opposition announced that they will have a database on violations observed during the elections and a coordination mechanism on how to react to violations.

In addition, the parties agreed on issues of cooperation with NGOs and international partners.

The opposition parties in Georgia adopted a joint declaration on the October elections at a meeting held in the office of the Labor Party on August 18.

They claim that "their task will not be to protect the votes of citizens with certain political tastes but to protect the transparency of the entire electoral process."

The opposition parties also agree to work together with international observers to prevent doubts about the legitimacy of the elections.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in Georgia on 31 October 2020 to elect the 150 members of Parliament.
