    Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina arrested

    Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eldar Hasanov, was arrested on August 13, Turan reports. A day later, the Sabail District Court sentenced Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eldar Hasanov, to three months in prison. According to law enforcement agencies, Hasanov is charged under Articles 308.2 (When abuse of official authority causes grave consequences) and 308-1.1 (Non-use of state budget, target budget funds, or extra-budgetary state funds for their intended purpose) of the Criminal Code. According to these articles, Hasanov can be sentenced to up to 7 years in prison.E. Hasanov was the country's Prosecutor General in 1995-2000. From 2001 to 2013, he served as Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Romania. Since 2013, he has served as Ambassador to Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although Hasanov was arrested on August 13, no order has been issued to recall him from the post of ambassador.
